Lynne Saiter

Lynne Saiter, 30, died in December, 1999 at a small hospital in Sydney, New York. She is survived by three children from earlier pregnancies, all born vaginally, and the baby from this pregnancy, who emerged from the experience severely brain-damaged.

She entered the hospital at 38 weeks gestation with intermittent contractions, wanting only to be checked. The doctor ordered intravenous antibiotics and inserted Cytotec, without there having been informed consent.

Labor soon began after the insertion of the Cytotec, and Ms. Saiter's uterus showed signs of hyperstimulation.after five hours later.
About eleven hours after the Cytotec was administered, both the baby and Saiter were in crisis. Forceps were applied to the baby's head because the emergency surgery crew had not yet arrived at the hospital. Saiter went into respiratory distress and shock and died. Her baby was life-flighted to another center and suffered seizures.

Autopsy revealed an amniotic fluid embolism.
