Lena Katz Grossman
Lena Katz Grossman died of toxemia on November 13, 1986, at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. Born in Leningrad in 1950, she married Ed Grossman in 1986, the son and brother of doctors. She sought the best prenatal care she could find. In her case, this meant that she was put on a low-calorie, no-salt diet, a practice that was still widespread in the 1980s.
Her son died 30 days after her death after five major micro-surgeries. Her husband, Ed's, story about her death was published in the July 1999 edition of Reader's Digest.
